The widespread curiosity about vampires can be explained by the mysterious place they occupy between life and death. Their mythologies have been generated to water down the reality of the subculture that lurks in places of power. Among the various legendary “guises” of the vampire are spirit, astral, psychic, animal, and real-life vampires who are deemed as “sadistic criminals urged on by a physical craving for blood.” Good and Evil are in great demand for the coercion of good-natured Americans to act against a perceived evil that is often created by their vampiric overlords. The ancient dualism that is making a comeback shows mankind as a closeted vampire ready to pounce on the vulnerable at any time.
