It was not surprising to me that when I did my post 9/11 show on September 12th, 2011 I would have received complaints. The phones rang and the e-mails came. People were angry that I was criticizing the president for reading the 46th Psalm. Some said that they could not understand how I could be so divisive and disrespectful. I realized that maybe I wasn’t clear about why I was so troubled about the reading of a scripture. The point of the separation of church and state apparently does not apply with regard to the God of Jacob and 9/11.
