There may be members of the family who will probably pass on the Thanksgiving meal and that is because many Americans are now on diabetes drugs that are causing weight loss undefined or, they are taking away the joy of eating. People on these prescriptions are bracing themselves for not-so-satisfying holiday celebrations due to their drastically diminished appetites brought on by the new injectables whereby food actually becomes a burden. Moreover, these medications can slow digestion so much that they put patients at increased risk for pulmonary aspiration, which can cause dangerous lung damage, infections, and even death. So, is killing the pleasure centers that make Thanksgiving so satisfying worth the trouble? Tonight on Ground Zero, Clyde Lewis talks with integrative medical practitioner, Dr. Jason West about FEAST OF BURDEN - BROUGHT TO YOU BY PFIZER.

SHOW TRANSCRIPT:
The Thanksgiving holiday is a day of gratitude, gathering, and indulgence — an opportunity to enjoy heaps of home-cooked food, followed by the option of unbuttoning one’s jeans or slipping into sweatpants to watch a football game.
But Thanksgiving also has a reputation for producing conflict: Many come face to face with the relatives they avoid the rest of the year, and find themselves drinking a little too much wine and arguing about politics, or worse, a ghastly Tofurkey.
Tensions are high. The plates are full. Gluttony is allowed- and your fat Aunt Minnie has filled her plate three times undefined and still says she wants to make room for Pumpkin pie.
Families may be quick to judge. Some would say that it’s best that pudgy Aunt Minnie put down the fork and get away from the table.
While other holidays draw people away from the table with religious services or gift giving, there are no such distractions on Thanksgiving- But this year there may be members of the family that will probably pass on the Thanksgiving meal.
That is because many Americans are now on Diabetes drugs that are now causing weight loss -or they are actually taking away the joy of eating.
This is why some family members may not fill their plates undefined or eat and not finish the feast.
This reality has sent many people who take Ozempic and similar drugs into preparation mode. Some are wondering whether they should tell family members that they are on the medication, to avoid hurting feelings with their smaller appetites, while others are worried about inviting judgment.
Most foodies are looking forward to indulging in smothered turkey, honey-baked ham, gooey macaroni and cheese, creamy casseroles and decadent desserts on Thursday.
But there are some that are stuck shooting up Semaglutide meds like Ozempic, Mounjaro and Wegovy — type-2 diabetes prescriptions used to lower blood sugar.
People on these prescriptions are bracing themselves for not-so-satisfying celebrations due to their drastically diminished appetites brought on by the new injectables.
The semaglutide in Ozempic works by mimicking a naturally occurring hormone, GLP-1. It slows down the passage of food through the stomach and intestines, sparking the sensation of satisfaction for longer stretches of time.
The powerful effects of the shots have even contributed to the drop in snack sales at Walmart. In October, the retail behemoth acknowledged a “slight pullback” in demand for the high-fat, -sugar and -calorie bites that once flew off of its shelves prior to the Ozempic rush.
Unlike previous weight loss drugs that often overpromised and frequently came with dangerous side effects, these meds work in part by quieting the “wanting” mind and dulling the pleasure centers. Patients may reduce calorie consumption by up to 30 percent, largely because food stops being fun undefined or pleasurable.
Food becomes a burden.
Overeating and poor diet have been linked to cancers, diabetes, hypertension, stroke, heart disease, respiratory diseases, arthritis, obesity and oral diseases.
Lifestyle-related diseases are linked to 7 in 10 American deaths each year, so the stakes are high, and, for many, the trade-offs are worth it.
But is killing the pleasure centers that make Thanksgiving so satisfying worth the trouble?
Think of all the holidays a disinterest in food would kill Thanksgiving, dead. Christmas and Easter, major body blow. And all those other universal things? Birth and death and love and sex?
Food has a place in every one of them.
Valentines chocolates go moldy, When someone dies? Bring their family a casserole or gooey lasagna. Food is a reward, solace, and promise.
Cooking for someone is an act of love completely different from doing chores or picking up the kids at school. It’s about giving pleasure. Cooking someone a meal is a way of saying: I see you, I’m paying attention, I know what you like. I want to prepare it for you undefined and hope you enjoy it.
A romantic candlelight dinner undefined ruined because someone has to inject themselves with Ozempic.
If this class of drugs rewires our brains and guts to think of food as just sustenance, the world will be so sad.
And that sadness is brought to you by Pfizer. Actually, Ozempic is distributed by Novo Nordisk.
But everything these days, from Christmas TV specials to Hanukkah is brought to you by Pfizer.
Pfizer wants a chunk of the budding weight loss drug market, which it believes could eventually grow to $90 billion.
As its Covid gains evaporate, Pfizer wants a chunk of the budding weight loss drug market.
However, analysts said that upcoming data on Pfizer’s experimental obesity pill, Danuglipron, will be crucial to how competitive the company can be against Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk.
Investors want to see Pfizer’s drug cause a similar level of weight loss as a once-daily pill from Eli Lilly in a phase two trial in obese patients with diabetes.
Investors are waiting for Pfizer to release phase two trial data on its twice-daily pill, in obese patients without diabetes, by the end of the year. They want to see the drug cause a similar level of weight loss as a once-daily pill from Eli Lilly. Investors are also eager for Pfizer to release trial data early next year on a once-daily version of danuglipron, which is seen as the more competitive form of the drug.
Pfizer sees a major opportunity in the segment, as it looks to rebound from plummeting demand for its Covid products and reverse a roughly 40% share price drop this year.
Oral drugs are typically easier to manufacture than injections, and more convenient for doctors to prescribe and patients to take. Pills could also potentially help alleviate the supply constraints plaguing many of their injectable counterparts as demand for the drugs soars.
Analysts said Pfizer appears to believe a once-daily version of the drug could lessen gastrointestinal side effects.
The fact that you donundefinedt like to eat after taking Ozempic isnundefinedt the only bad side effect that is reported.
Ozempic and Wegovy have some drawbacks.
A growing number of patients are detailing embarrassing and debilitating stomach and toilet symptoms - from severe constipation to losing control of the bowels.
The problems have become so common a Reddit group with more than 30,000 members has been created where users share their most embarrassing stories.
One user wrote in a thread: undefinedI quite literally had bowel incontinence while sleeping. Thatundefineds a first. Been tough few days of diarrhea after my first semaglutide injection.undefined Meanwhile, a 43-year-old anonymous man taking Wegovy said undefinedI just feel SO embarrassed being a grown adult who messed his pants!undefined
The drugs slow the digestive process, making people feel full for longer periods. This can lead to constipation. However, it can also signal to the brain that stomach contents need to be emptied sooner, resulting in diarrhea.
These medications trigger a reflex called the ileal break, which involves the end of the intestines, the ileum, telling the stomach to stop accepting food. This suppresses hunger.
This could make the colon empty out food faster, causing diarrhea.
TikTokers have also complained about gastrointestinal woes.
One user posted two videos about a series of digestive complaints she had since starting Wegovy, including cramps, constipation, and diarrhea.
Another user, who takes Ozempic, said in a video that she experienced cramping, vomiting, and undefinedsulfur burps, undefined which smell like rotten eggs.
The long-term outcomes of these medications are largely unknown, though digestive complaints are among the most common side effects.
Clinical trials show that 30 percent of patients experience diarrhea on Wegovy, compared to 16 percent on the placebo, according to the drugundefineds prescribing information.
Common side effects of Ozempic include constipation, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain, according to the drugundefineds label. In 2022, more than five million prescriptions for Ozempic, Mounjaro, Rybelsus (for another Novo drug that uses semaglutide), or Wegovy were written for weight management.
This is compared with just over 230,000 in 2019 — an increase of more than 2,000 percent over three years.
Doctors in the US are writing more than 100,000 Wegovy prescriptions per week, the drugundefineds manufacturer Novo estimated.
The question is whether or not it is worth it.
Sustained weight loss helps to reduce mechanical joint pain, increase mobility, improve quality of life, and for many, improve self-esteem and self-worth when it comes to internalized biases around weight, food, and body image—all issues poisoned by society’s hateful obsession with weight and with the notion that if you just want to lose weight badly enough, you’ll find a way. The corollary of which is that if you don’t, it’s because you’re lazy, gluttonous, or both.
Sharon Osbourne the wife of Ozzy Osbourne has been doing interviews about how Ozempic has made her too thin and how she now looks so gaunt.
She implied that sheundefineds faced a lot of criticism for her appearance, but says she has undefinednever really cared what people say about the way I look because I know I’ve paid a fortune to try and look attractive.undefined
Whenever I hear of these so-called miracle drugs, especially back when the vaccine was an ever-present panacea. I wonder sometimes if things like cancer and rampant obesity are a result of the toxic GMOs that are bodies are responding to. They are made so that we will all be sick undefined and bog Pharma is there to save the day.
They never talk about the root of the problem, how we are purposely destroying the natural order of God’s creation and our very own, precious immune systems.
Everything is given a band-aid and nothing is cured.
We mask pain and put ourselves through searing stomach cramps to achieve weight loss.
Taking what appears to be a cure -when it is either a Nocebo or an iatrogenic artifact-where the remedy is worse than the disease.
How long has cancer been around? The earliest known mention of cancer was “found in a papyrus document from ancient Egypt, dated 3000 BCE. It described tumors found in the breast. The cancer was treated by destroying the tissue with a hot instrument called “the fire drill”—a technique we now call “cauterization.”
I wonder how much money the pharmaceutical industry made off of that procedure in ancient Egypt. Not much, since it was just a one-off treatment. To make real money, you have to keep the patient coming back for more. And more. And more.
I think the word I’m looking for here is sustainable. They use this word all the time just to give you enough to make you feel some relief and then remove it to let you suffer begging for more.
Aldous Huxley warned us that we would eventually become slaves to our technology, sexual gratification, and mind-altering and body-altering drugs.
He warns that technology, in the hands of the wrong government, could be used to destroy humanity.
We are always promised by big Drug companies the big fix for obesity and cancer undefined but we get more obesity and more cancer- and now some people are facing debilitating weight loss and lose their desire for food.
Doesnundefinedt that sound like another way to starve Americans with the promise of better health?
Never a word about how people should live healthier lives. Never a word about how manmade toxins give us cancer so maybe we should stop promoting the lie that fake things are better than real things.
Such truths are dangerous. Such thinking stops “progress.”
Let’s keep doing what we know works—not for the patient, but for the Billionaires like Bill Gates and their lackeys.
Letundefineds all be coerced into taking their poisons and run the risk of clotting, heart failure, infertility, and cancer.
I must admit that I need man supplements and medications to survive, without them I would probably deteriorate and die undefined and I have to admit undefined I do not feel free. I wonder if at any time I should not be able to do what I do, and not have any way to make money to pay for these expensive drugs that I will eventually have a quality of life that will expire.
It sometimes feels like a moral failing.
Synthetic everything that is what is meant by sustainable undefined just enough to get by -and more expensive to keep among the living.
Synthetic doesn’t cure us. It might seem like it does for a minute, but it always backfires. Synthetic is toxic to our natural state.
It just prolongs the inevitable and has certainly thwarted the idea of survival of the fittest.
Science and technology today spearhead discussion of a fundamental question: What does it mean to be human? At a deep level, how we think about human nature itself appears in flux under the lens of “transhumanist” and “posthumanist” thought.
Are these drugs making us evolve into something other than normal fragile humans?
The widespread availability of drugs in the present is an evolutionary novelty, or mismatch; meaning that the brain and the body are transformed through various poisons and foreign substances.
Approximately 40 trillion microbes live in our body, most of which are in our gut, and they impact everything from how we digest our food to how we defend ourselves against outside threats such as viruses, cancers, parasites, and bacteria.
We are now told that the body can be hacked and rewired undefined because now science sees us as a platform. Not a soul.
If we continue on this path, the immune systems of billions of people will be destroyed, they will be living horrible existences, totally dependent on synthetics.
Marketing, brainwashing, and relentless conditioning to accept illness as something they cannot fix unless they take a drug or vaccine. Even though the drugs most often make them sicker. It makes absolutely no sense, yet people pop the pills and take the injections.
So while eating with your extended family this holiday season, you may want to avoid judging someone who is just picking at their plate.. you may be surprised at how thin they are looking. Perhaps they are developing an eating disorder brought on by Ozempic.
It is because whatever this drug does it makes you lose your appetite. That’s because you’ve lost the pleasure of eating and the reward of having a beautiful meal.
Now the question is undefined how long can you stand this undefined just how long?
I hope and pray that we do not see statistics in the future that indicate that the quick-fix weight loss drug can cause renal failure or liver problems.
Oh, but wait – after further study perhaps we see the future as the fine print does tell us that perhaps we have been too hasty in taking it to lose weight.
Gallstones were reported in about 3% of participants on extended Wegovy. About one in 10 users stop the drug because of serious side effects. Wegovy is contraindicated in specific cases such as acute or chronic pancreatitis, a family history of certain cancers, or renal impairment.
But it is only 3% -at least for now. I mean didn’t they tell us that the Covid Vaccines would cure it all? Now we are bombarded with ads encouraging us to get COVID boosters – yes this has turned out to be a complete scam.
If you need immediate surgery, Ozempic may interfere with anesthesia.
Some anesthesiologists in the U.S. and Canada say they’ve seen growing numbers of patients on weight-loss drugs who inhaled food and liquid into their lungs while sedated because their stomachs were still full — even after following standard instructions to stop eating for six to eight hours in advance.
The drugs can slow digestion so much that it puts patients at increased risk for pulmonary aspiration, which can cause dangerous lung damage, infections, and even death.
So you go in for appendicitis, and come out dying like a rockstar who chokes on his vomit.
How awful.
Aspiration occurs in one of every 2,000 to 3,000 operations that require sedation, and almost half of the patients who aspirate during surgery develop a related lung injury. However, case reports show recent patients on semaglutide had problems even when they stopped food as long as 20 hours before their procedures.
No wonder they don’t have room for that extra slice of pumpkin pie.
But for those of us who pick at the stuffing before it is served, or put the olives on every finger to entertain the toddlers – or even make a Turkey sandwich while everyone has loosened their belts and have passed out – enjoy your natural Thanksgiving meal while you can.
Before it is all put in a pill.
